Tonight, Lauren and I were at Runners Fit to help with a special event that the store hosts for the local high schools in our area. After the kids left, we were standing around talking with Jenny, Hal, Peter, Mark, Shannon, Natalie, and Ryan, and like usual Lauren was trying to contribute to the conversation by squealing and babbling. When she let out one of her squeals, I noticed a white spot on her lower gums. I looked again and announced to everyone "I see a tooth!" I had some disbelievers, but after about 15 minutes and everyone each taking a look to determine if it was a tooth or left over food, we all were excited that Lauren has her first tooth. Once we got home, we immediately called Mimi and Grandpa, and Grandmommie and Pop, to tell them the exciting news. (We will post a picture of the first tooth as soon as we can get Lauren to open her mouth long enough to take one - we even have Aunt Jenny helping us during the day to get a snapshot).
Exciting Event #2:
For those of you who don't get to see Lauren's progress, let me tell you - the child will probably skip the crawling stage. She hates to be on her stomach and Ryan and I continue to try to get her use to being on her belly and in the crawling position. She wants to get to things but the light bulb just will not come on in her head. She has not put together the idea that if I move my legs while I am on my belly I maybe able to propel myself to the toy that I want. She will sit there, put her arm out, and shriek until you determine what she wants and hands it to her. If you aren't there to get it for her, she will squeal once or twice, and then give up. We have tried encouraging her to get things on her own by not handing it to her when she screams for it or putting it just out of her reach. Up until this evening, it has not worked....
Tonight, after her evening bottle, I was burping her on my lap. I had my legs propped up on the coffee table, to where they made a human bridge from my lap to the coffee table. The next thing I knew, Lauren had leaned over on her side, grabbed the sides of my legs, and pulled herself on to her belly. Her little booty kept going up in the air as her legs were trying to push herself forward. She finally wiggled enough to where she could reach some magazines that were on the coffee table. She has finally made an attempt to get something on her own. It is amazing how independent she is becoming. Here is the picture Ryan took while Lauren was in motion:
